Default since college is so important; shouldnt it be FREE to those that want it?

its turned into a scam. a big business that fleeces government and student alike.im sick of seeing certain members of society getting fat FAFSA grants, so much that they have much more than enough (usually single mothers) while most hard working people get not even enough to cover the inflated costs of classes and outrageous costs of books. i think it should be free, since its so necessary, like high school is free for those that want it.

The student loan business is very profitable. Banks and other financial institutions have earned big bucks off this scam.

We get government loans in Australia, with low interest rates. You pay it back after you get a full time job and earn over a certain threshold. It gets deducted from pay like taxes. This seems to work well. It 'feels' free when you study, so you don't have to work yourself into the ground to make ends meet, and you pay it back when you can afford to do so afterwards, so its not funded by taxpayers.

You keep throwing the word 'free' around, as though your education would be free. No, books cost money, infrastructure costs money, professors cost money, class materials cost money, support staff costs money. Since people don't usually work for free and businesses don't give away products for free, then we can only conclude that SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE would actually have to pay for your education. Guess who? That's right - taxpayers! That would be awfully expensive. Do you think the government should increase taxes to pay for everyone's college education? You can say 'free' all you like, but nothing's ever free, someone always pays. You just don't want to pay. You want to transfer the burden onto someone else, someone like me. I worked my way through college, so can you, if that's what you truly want. To avoid raising taxes to 100%, universities and colleges are user based. The user pays! That's probably the fairest and freest way to do it.
