since college is so important; shouldnt it be FREE to those that want it?
You keep throwing the word 'free' around, as though your education would be free. No, books cost money, infrastructure costs money, professors cost money, class materials cost money, support staff costs money. Since people don't usually work for free and businesses don't give away products for free, then we can only conclude that SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE would actually have to pay for your education. Guess who? That's right - taxpayers! That would be awfully expensive. Do you think the government should increase taxes to pay for everyone's college education? You can say 'free' all you like, but nothing's ever free, someone always pays. You just don't want to pay. You want to transfer the burden onto someone else, someone like me. I worked my way through college, so can you, if that's what you truly want. To avoid raising taxes to 100%, universities and colleges are user based. The user pays! That's probably the fairest and freest way to do it.
