Looking For Manufactures and Wholesale Supplier of Clothings

I am currently in the planning stage of starting an import business (mainly clothing and accessories). I am at a loss of where to start looking for a genuine manufacturer in Asia, I am interested in all types of clothing (women, men and children).

I have three main problems and I need your advise:

1. My greatest worry is how to determine if the product is genuine so they
don't end up with customs here in Australia.
2. My plan at the moment is to make a trip to Malaysia and Singapore to look
for potential manufacture but I am not quite sure if that is the right place
to start from and if it will be better to go directly to China.
3. How can I get in touch with manufacturer in Asia and how to deal with the
manufacturer, Can anyone share their experience in locating. Is there a
forum like this one where you can check manufactures in Asia and their
product.

I am willing make the trip to any where in Asia to see the product and discuss with the manufacturer.

I will appreciate any respose on how best to approach this as I plan to start selling sometime in July 2010.

Here are some of my suggestions:

1. I do not know this point very well since I am not in clothing business. But in my mind, I think it would not be a problem if all the items that you are going to buy are all customized clothes. I know a clothing manufacturer in Vietnam, but they are only making clothes for men, the quality is very nice, but the prices are also very expensive, possibly you would not be interested in.
2. China is the very first place to visit I think. You can find manufacturers very easily there. And there are lot of factories making clothes for famous brands. You can get high quality products there (only if you are willing to pay a little bit more money, there's no need for you to worry about the quality)
3. You need to be awared of suppliers in China. For trading companies, they used to pretend to be manufacturers, but the truth is that they do not have their own factories, and for lot of factories, they hardly do business with foreigners. Probably I can help you to find real manufacturers in China if you need.

Before you go to visit suppliers ,you'd better to talk with them first what you need ,and ask them to send you sample or their present samples for check .Then you can choose what you think it is good and visit them.You can search on google or baidu.com.There are many clothes suppliers
