Default no more plastic bags in China

Latest news from China, all the super stores will not supply free plastic bags any more from Jun.2008. You have to either pay for it or use your own cloth bag or whatever else.

My question is, how is the situation in UK? If you buy anything from a store, what's the packing to bring the goods back home?

It is a new opportunity.

Apparently they will be supplying LV, Coach and Gucci ones instead

I think this is happening in the UK around 2010 or 2012.

I know in Canada, they're going to ban all the plastic bags, plastic cutleries, plastic tablewares...all have to be replaced by compostable stuffs, no harm to the environment.

It's great news to see China taking an active role in what is a serious problem. Just imagine 1.3 billion people using plastic bags on a regular basis.

In the UK there is a move towards bags that can be reused.

It's more visual pollution than enviromental pollution.

Not true. A plastic bag takes over 1,000 years to decompose. This means that we have millions of plastic bags in land fill sites just sitting there.

You can only put them in a land fill site as burning them produces CO2.

Yeah, its really annoying how slow the AUS is in implementing new techniques like this, I went to Australia on holiday the summer before last and they didn't have any plastic bags in the supermarkets, but it didn't make much difference, we just used cardboard boxes instead, which you can reuse very easily.
