Default Confidence Boosters

I'm having a bit of a crisis of confidence at the moment. I have been selling face to face and on the phone to customers for years, but I've had a bit of a break and I'm finding it hard to remember what I used to do that made it seem easy! What I could do with are a couple of confidence boosters to use when I'm having an 'off day'? Once I get going I'm OK, but it's hard to make the initial start.

I Green-Moo,
I do a lot of calling on the phone ( which I dont really like ) but the thing that gets me through is REALLY having confidence in my product. I know it is good and original and we are the only people doing it. I think if you believe in your product is useful to the other person you can sell it. If you feel you are trying in someway to con the person at the other end into buying then it is hard work. I try and get a name to call - not just the "manager please". Oftn to my target market I will first send a letter explaining our product then a few days later I will call to see if he received it. This way there is a 'genuine' reason for calling and it isn't regarded as a cold call.

I used sell products on the phone too. Whenever I’m having an off day I would take a break. Have a deep breath and look at the mirror and smile to myself. This has been proven to help you boost your confidence.
BTW, smiling while talking on the phone will do help you to make a sale because your contact will feel how happy you are when you are talking.

I find that standing up makes me feel more energised when I'm doing telephone sales too. And definately never smoke (not that I do anyway).

At the moment I'm doing some sales work for a friend's business to help her get off the ground. I'm selling advertising in her new local publication and although I beleive in it, it's really not very exciting stuff! January / February is never going to be a record sales period, but I'm looking at each meeting and call as providing groundwork for future success.

I think rather than chasing customers, you would want customers chasing you.
How are you currently advertising this?

It would be nice in a perfect world for customers to chase you but it doesn't work except with the occasional lead. If we waited for our customers just to come to us we would have 3/4 less customers. Advertising is very expensive. Phone is very cheap.

That would be nice it the customer would chase us instead, but we must remember that we have a lot of competitors on whatever industry that you are in. If you are going to advertise, you should have a budget for this.
