Default Low-cost Advertising Idea

I appreciate that this won't suit every business, but something unusual I used to do was give free carrier bags to market stall holders, each containing one of my flyers. The stall holders would snap up the free bags as they didn't have to purchase them themselves, and every customer found an advert when they unpacked their shopping.

Hello Green-Moo,
Low-cost and unusual advertising ideas like yours seem to do very well.
Very nice idea, keep it up!

Good stuff..

Just on that idea.. cheap and effective
-Something I have used in the past, is getting my younger cousins to 'play with chalk' on their sidewalk.. Business name.. .com .. call to action
Random branding, and syngerised avenues can develop a deep sense of recognition for your business.. At present I have several grafitti artists incorporating my logos into their chacter desing.
Subconscious, undergroud advertising.

Re : BigJonMud
Well if you are planning to sell skateboards or want to adverise a rave you are organising you might be on to a winner. Pesonally with our target market I think I would pay not to have our name spray painted on the side of a warehouse. I can't stand grafitti of any sort and personally if I saw a website scrawled on a wall I wouldn't tap it in.

One low cost publication is the Japan Society of Brisbane newsletter. I think it costs us about $30 a month or so. Of course it is limited as it is aimed at Japanese expats and immigrants. However there is a sizable amount of Japanese in Australia and they are pretty nervous about using businesses outside their 'circle'. Once in their circle the power of word of mouth is pretty fast. I beleieve there are Japan Societies all over Australia. I do know something about the Japanese as we do a lot of business with the restaurants and I did live there for 10 years and my wife is infact Japanese. They do expect good work mind you.

Originality is the real key behind it all.

I imagine that is an advertising medium that's going to work only for a very small sector of business, but if it works for you (and the grafitti art is the 'approved' sort rather than just pure vandalism) then go for it. The trick with advertising is to reach your target market, and if your target market is impressed by this sort of artwork then you're onto a winner.

I agree with you there Grren-Moo --> The trick with advertising is to reach your target market, regardless of what it takes.
