i wouldnt be too reliant on that theory hassent, because even tho in Australia we care about the "little guy" and such, it'd be pretty hard trying to sue a large company.
One advice i do have to offer tho is to read up on previous great inventors such as Tesla, Edison and others. But make sure read BOOKS people and just not some article on wikipedia

How about car brake lights that get brighter the harder you press or alternatively a series of lights - if you just touch the brake one light lights up 2 if harder and in an emergency all 7 or 8 light up. Gives the person behind an idea of the seriousness of a braking car ahead

I don't think reselling goods is a bad thing, just depends on what the goods are.

Surely all the big retailers started out as small resellers, and just grew into large businesses.

Developing brand names can be very valuable for future growth.
We resell products, but also work with the manufacturers in China to modify designs and are building up a couple of brand names right now, and things are going well. Doesn't cost anything to put your own brand name on a product, except for the trademark fee.

Sometimes there seems like no point in reinventing the wheel, if other strategies will do te same job more easilly.

Spider.

How about the service industries? I think it's slightly easier to get a new take on an old idea, or even a completely new idea if you're offering a service rather than a product.

Green Moo I think you are correct. Service has become so bad I think a slight improvement by one business would stand out above the rest. If for example a garage offered a free loan car when yours was being serviced I would use them everytime ( would save my wife having to follow in her car). If tradies for example waived the call out charge ( or at least halved it ) for repeat customers it would encourage you to use them again and telephoned if they were going to be late. If tradesmen wore uniforms it would add to the professionalism.
This is part of the problem with my company http://www.xcedtowels.com We supply moist cotton 'oshibori' towels to restaurants to offer to their customers when they sit down ( like you get on some airlines) Hot in winter and icy cold on hot sweaty summer days. Customers love them and for a few cents per customer not expensive. But many of the restaurants really don't appreciate giving the customer a little added attention to detail. In Japan all restaurant s give the towels and if they dont people will think they are cheap and might even complain.
Small touches can make a big difference.
