Small Business Starting Tips
1. Don’t do it alone. You NEED a support system while you’re starting a business (and afterwards). A family member or friend that you can bounce ideas off and who will listen sympathetically to the latest businses start up crisis is invaluable. Even better, find a mentor or, if you qualify, apply for a business start up program. Experienced guidance is the best support sytem of all.
2. Get clients or customers first. Don’t wait until you’ve offically started your business to line these up, because your business can’t survive without them. Do the networking. Make the contacts. Sell or even give away your products or services. You can’t start marketing too soon.
3. Write a business plan The main reason for doing a business plan first is that it can help you avoid sinking your time and money into starting a business that will NOT succeed.
4. Do the research. You’ll do a lot of research working through a business plan, but that’s just a start. You need to become an expert on your industry, products and services, if you’re not already. Joining related industry or professional associations before you start your business is a great idea.

Great tips
Making sure you are the expert in your field is certainly extremely important.
As soon as people feel that they are not getting adequate answers to their question, you will start loosing customers. I have seen quite a few people make this mistake.
Know your product and act out of your personal conviction and pride that you are offering a valuable service.

Hi !
some important things:
1. Cost Effectiveness
The most important thing is money. How much you are investing and in how much time you would earn it back.
2. Risk
Does the business you are going to start really pay off ?
3. Research
Is there someone doing the same business? If yes, study his work.

When you go into business for yourself, you are usually personally liable for all judgments and debts that the business incurs. This includes business loans, taxes, money owed to suppliers and landlords, and any judgments against the business as a result of a lawsuit. If you don't protect yourself, a creditor can go after your personal assets, such as your car and your house, to pay for these debts.
While you can protect yourself against lawsuits by buying business liability insurance, this won't help you with business debts. If you will be running up big debts, consider forming a corporation or limited liability company (LLC). Just one person can form either of these types of businesses.

The best support system for me is to find and hire talented virtual staffs to automate your least non-dollar productive projects which cover most of multiple and time consuming tasks while you as the project manager will be responsible of administration. Training them is one aspect though you shouldn't be spending too much for hiring, training and hiring again and again and all works then should be documented. By doing this, you can save more of your valuable time to look for more business opportunities, draw plans and create more projects to be targeted to be able to succeed in business.

Great advice! I wholeheartedly agree! Especially about the support, it's a lot of work and hard to do it alone. If you have a partner, or even just someone you can discuss your concerns with every now and then, it makes a huge difference.

Anybody starting out in business must be have looked at the true cost of establishment and what cash reserves they have or how they are going to generate cash flow quickly. Without cash flow no business will survive once the reserve runs out.
Working from home has its unique problems if a family is involved, if it is set a limit once the limit is reached Stop.
If you didn't have enough cash flow, look at what didn't happen, look at what did happen, make sure you track any advertising, by using a unique tracking tool.
A simple one is to use a contact name that can identify where the inquiry came from. i.e. (Bill) if they ask for Bill, Bill is busy but you can help them, that will identify what they saw or read and responded to in your advertising.

Great to read so many responses.
I think that all of the above can be summed into one key topic,
Business Planning - Without the right research, tools and marketing strategies within your "master plan" unfortunately you're a candidate for the failure rate.
If you're looking for a master plan to help you in your business endeavors, I'd gladly grant you a free copy of my 7 day master plan secrets course which can be found in the contact info/home page link of my profile on abforum.
Best wishes and look forward to hearing from you throughout the course.
David.

Good tips for starting a small business
Hello,
Starting a small business is not something to be taken lightly. It can be a great opportunity to obtain financial freedom as well as the ability to travel, and to spend time with your family. Doing a few things up front can make it possible for your business to hit the ground running and have a successful take off. There are two main areas that need to be considered prior to launching your business.
When first starting a small business many people may rely on minimal marketing. This is generally due to financial concerns however, marketing is especially important when a business is first starting out. You want to draw as much attention from as many different sources as possible. Internet marketing has advanced even as technology and software capabilities have over recent years.
Thanks.
