Default Ebay - Distance Selling Ratings

Hi,

I know that ebay have the DSR ( Distance Selling Ratings ) for the 4 categories, Product Description, Dispatch time, Communication and P&P charges.

Over the last month I have been looking at how these change when people put up feedback, currently I am 5.0/4.7/4.6/4.7, with dispatch time as the lowest.

I was wondering what communication you send out when you sell an item. I know that all items are sent the next business day and I am currently only letting them choose second class post to keep costs down. As I am on a 4.6 for the Dispatch time should I email the purchaser when an item has been sent ? I dont want to overload them with emails from me to the point they get annoyed.

Should I offer a range of postal options so that then can choose their service and cost of sending an item ?

What workflows do people find work for them, is this overkill ?

1). Sale on ebay
2). Send invoice with in 24 hours
3). When payment received send a message saying the item will be dispatched tomorrow or etc....
4). Send a mail when item is dispatched
5). If no feedback send a feedback reminder

Cheers,

Yasmin

Automate the messages, personally I don't like to give a shipping choice, but since I send everything the day the payment is received by 1st class recorded or next day courier I have never had a problem.

The more options you have the more dithering you will get.

I send all the messages as standard, but explain the process in my listings as well.

I agree with Flock, automate messages and don't give too many options

This is how i do it:

1. Sale
2. Send invoice if havent paid within 2 days (otherwise nothing)
3. Mark as payment received when direct bank deposit received, otherwise paypal is auto
4. Post item and mark as posted.

Notes:
Items are usually posted same day of sale if paid, otherwise 1-2 days later when i get to a post office. Usually arrive at customer 1-2days, longer if in Perth etc.

Some people then email if havent received in 2 days asking if been posted and i simply reply yes, posted "date"

My rating is 4.7/4.4/4.3/3.8 with postage fees being lowest because i rip ebay off
Feedback: feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=phasercomputers &ftab=AllFeedback

I Don't seem to have to many complaints, only some from potential buyers who have a whine about paying $10 postage when they win the item for $1.

cheers

Its "Detailed Seller Ratings" Most of the time if a buyer gives you a neutral or negative they give you all 1 stars across the board which I think is a huge problem with the DSR system

From the other perspective, when I am buying something on eBay I appreciate getting an email at every point in the process. I would like to receive an email for: invoice, payment received with statement of when item will ship, notice of shipment. If you don't send an email at the time of shipment your customer will assume that you haven't yet shipped it and they will think you are delaying. If you tell them when you ship it and give a confirmation number or tracking number, they know you shipped promptly and delivery time is out of your hands.
