Default Ebay Feedback Changes Coming..watch out sellers

Can Ebay seriously think that this is the right move? Sure I agree that feedback retaliation is an issue that needs to be resolved but surely this simple puts in into the hands of the buyers solely? How many threats of negatives will arise from this change simple based on a seller wanting more because they havn?t read the description of thought they were actually getting something else..

What happens if a new buyer doesn?t know what they are doing and leaves a negative by mistake, will Ebay be making some provision for this removal/adjustment other than mutaul agreement to withdraw etc..

How many sellers will simply make their feedback private to counter this move?

Those that read my blog regularly know that I am a big fan of the Ebay marketplace but have they simply gone to far here in protecting the buyers and ignoring those that provide the lifeblood to the site?the Sellers. Answers in the form of comments to this post please?..I seriously am astounded at this move by Ebay!!

Seems like eBay made the wrong decision. Letting the seller not leave neutal or negative feedback? What happens if a seller gets into a situation where those kind of people who bid / buy and don't pay up and leave negative feedback. What will the seller do? The only thing they can do is see their reputation go down.

:>Good blog first off!

Its bad news though, we can't leave negs any more, not even nuetrals

What if a buyer doesn't pay? What do we do then leave them positive feedback?!

Same old eBay. There was an uproar over the seller ratings. At the end of the day let eBay do what they want, someone leaves a neg - let them.

Amazon is catching eBay up as it only allows genuine businesses and rewards genuine good performing sellers. Their simple but very effective model is by far better than ebay and results are beginning to prove that.

Like the many other p***ed of power sellers, I no doubt will stay there for the traffic and that's about it.

This has to be one of their worst ideas. Buyers are, in my eyes, just as bad as the sellers supposedly are. So why are they not doing anything about this, too?

The amount of non-paying bidders will certainly rise as an effect of this. There's no come back, so why should they feel obliged to pay?

I can see this also leading to buyers being extra finicky and demanding a service which just isn't physically possible.

Then again, I suppose it slipped eBay's mind to think about the sellers?! After all, were only the ones who continue to top up their bank balance.

100% correct. I'm sure there will be a huge riot on this on the eBay forums. It goes to show how much eBay care about us sellers.

Lower insertion fees but higher FVF and up to 40% discount for good performing power sellers Could we be finally be rewarded for all the business we give ebay?

Good idea but as you know, ebay won't budge. The PowerSeller forums are up in arms, thats when they are not talking about what they had for lunch and what to name their goldfish!

Well, this certainly is a turn for the worst!

In my opinion, this defeats the whole object of having a marketplace based on feedback ratings. They might as well do away with the feedback system completely as from a sellers point of view, not being able to rate buyers after a transaction is a restriction of their right to a fair feedback opinion.

I guess I can see why eBay have done it, this being to stop buyers from being scared to leave sellers who mess them around a negative feedback. But this now surely makes it completely unfair as buyers are allowed to voice their opinions, but sellers have to sit back and be quiet. I wouldn't mind betting there are more transactions disrupted by moron eBay buyers than there are sellers! (If you take the scam artists out of the equation).

Is it me or do you get the opinion that both eBay and PayPal favour the buyer? Their whole platform is geared to prioritise a buyers experience, rather that giving sellers a moderately equal opportuntity. I'll sign the petition.

PS: Great topic for debate, thanks Ben
