Yes it is true. I am a beta tester for google classifieds (code named 'Google Classifieds') which launches worldwide on 1/4/2008.

It is free to post ads as long as you use Google Checkout and they refund you 20% of the selling price. SO if you buy something for $50 and sell $100 you get $50 profit plus $20 from Google.

Sounds Interesting...No dought in my mind that google will blow ebay out of the water.
If google allowed free listing and final value fees they would still make millions on the advertising. I am sure they will come up with a solid system with real seller benefits.

I'm just suprised that Google haven't challenged eBay earlier. They've certainly chosen a good time to launch, whilst seller confidence in eBay is low.

Is it a worldwide launch, does anyone know? Or just selected markets to start?

I had not heard this yet. I think that they will do great getting into this market. And the above poster is right in that they couldn't have picked a better time to launch it. Hopefully they will get it up and running here soon.

It looks promising. Maybe this will get eBay to lower its demand on everybody using their site for selling or buying some items.

It will be interesting to see how eBay handles the competition. They've been about the only guppy in the fish tank for much too long as far as I'm concerned.

that is the same thing that I am thinking. I hope that they will lower their fees. That will surely help their campaigns because I'm really hearing a lot of bad things about them right now.
