Package Received But Item Not Inside

Hi all

Another problem on ebay :S
I recently sold one of my used games on ebay

The winning bidder had a confirmed address but only a feedback of 4, although he/she had good feedback. So with the confirmed address, I decided to send it via First Class Recorded Delivery in a large letter and it was padded and sealed.

Now I got the message from the buyer telling me that they got the package but the game was not inside it.

Im a bit curious as to why he/she did not ask the postman why the package was open and the item wasn't inside it. Do you think hes trying to pull one or if it was genuinely lost.

Go back check with the post office. If the package was opened before delivered, you can ask the post office to take the responsibility; If the packaged was originally sealed, maybe your customer was lying to you, which you have no way to claim.

Remeber to use insurance next time.

Ask the recipient was the package sealed when they received it? Was it damaged or been unopened?

If they say it was still sealed etc then the theft can only have occurred at the point they open the packages. If this is the case you can inform that you will have to refer the matter to the police as somebody has stolen the item after delivery.

You will be surprised how many 'oh it's OK my partner opened it and I was not aware' replies you get when you mention getting the police involved

To be honest I don't bother putting claims in anymore for low value items. Takes too long, too may hoops to jump though and the whole RM process is a complete waste of time. For the small percentage of missing items, we just now send a replacement and be done with it.

Better to ask the buyer about the package. It shouldn't be a problem if it was sealed. If it was open ask them why they didn't ask the postal man about the item being opened. I would say that I brought a laptop on Ebay and in just one and half month the harddisk is giving horrible sound and it doesn't start up. I need to replace the harddisk now.

Just make a big fuss about calling the police and what-not. They are sure to back off.
In my experience the buyer is trying to pull a dodgy.

That idea never struck my mind zone. Calling cops is something I couldn't think of, but I guess it might work out well, at least we would know whether they are speaking the truth or lying.

You could handle it both the nice way or the aggressive way and come up on top. Its your choice.

You might be right on this one. The might actually just pulling your legs off, better inform the site first then seek the assistance of the authority.

Hmm...Just find out if it arrived sealed or unsealed and work from there.
