Default Strategies for Home Working

I suppose this question would apply to anyone who runs a business from home, but eBay and online auctioneers tend to work from home so I thought I would poll a few of you guys first.

How do you juggle your work with your family life, when you are working from home? Unfortunately I'm not at a stage with this particular business to be able to justify dedicated space, so I am working entirely from home. Even taking the kids out of the equation, I still find it hard to concentrate on my list of business tasks & quite often find myself distracted.

I've heard home workers come up with various strategies before. How about you? Do you have a room dedicated to the business? Do you dress for 'work' every morning? Do you treat yourself once you've acheived a set amount?
Or perhaps you are one of these highly motivated people who doesn't need any encouragement to spend the whole day concentrating on the business?

I’m not having any trouble working from home because I’m not yet married. I don’t have any room for my business; it’s just set up in the corner of out house. I don’t even dress up for work; I’m just wearing a short and a t-shirt.

When I am alone I am able to manage everything but with my relatives at home for a visit it is becoming hard and at times just not able to make it for the day to work at home. I am trying to manage everything but still it is getting harder.

I live with my boyfriend and he often complains that I am distant and always working. He's right I suppose, considering I get up at 9am and work almost non stop until around 5am. It is my challenge to be able to focus on something other than work. I guess it is just as well we share our home office or he would never get to see me

Hello Green Moo,
I have strugled with the same problem you are describing. Here are some ways to overcome it:
1. Have a scedueled work hour (eg 9-5 with a 30min break at 10.30 and 1 hour break at 12.30)
2. Set up an office area where you explain to your family it is your space and to leave you alone once you are in there. Just explain nicely that you need to work solid hours to make a decent wage.
3. Have a sleep routine where you get to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time. eg. wake up at 8am and get to sleep at 11pm.
4. If you think it will help get dressed for work every day.
5. And by far the best motivator use little treats to motovate yourself.
I hope this helps, Cheers 1tothe2

Everyone here seem to have really different tasks per day. I am in a process of making myself busy, hope I do make it at the earliest.
