1. Provide your visitors with free content.

Your content will be more attractive to your visitors if it's up-to-date or original. You could also offer people the option to reprint the content in their e-zine or web site.

People are surfing the internet for information and if your website contain information related to their area of interest, they are going to love your sites. So make sure that the information on your site is of relevant and good quality content.

Nowadays, blogging has become very popular as it is the best way to provide free content and keep it up to date. By writing a blog, you can build a community around your blog readers and create a trusting relationship to keep them coming back to your blog for fresh content.

2. Exchange Links

This is a sure and proven method. Rarely would you see a site where there is no link to another site. Many webmasters are willing to exchange links with one another so that they could produce more public awareness about their sites. You’ll soon see and feel the sudden upsurge of the traffic coming in to your site from other sites.

A major prerequisite in exchanging links with other sites is having the same niche or content as the other site. They should share a common subject so that there is continuity in the providing of service and information to what interests your target traffic.

Exchanging links also boosts your chances of getting a high ranking in search engine results. It is common knowledge that search engines ranks high sites that have inbound and outbound theme-related links. With a good ranking position in the search engines, you will generate more traffic in your website without the high costs.

3. Write and Submit Articles

There are many e-zines and online encyclopedias in the internet which provides free space for articles to be submitted. If you want to save costs, you can do the articles yourself. There are many freelance writers who are willing to write for you for a small fee, but to save money, it is wise to do those articles yourself.

Write articles that are themed along with the niche of your site. Write something that you have expertise on so that when they read it, they can feel your knowledge about the subject and will be eager to go to your site. Write articles that produce tips and guidelines to the subject or niche your site has.

Include a resource box at the end of your article that can link them to your site. Write a little about yourself and your site. If you provide a light, information-laden and interesting article, they will go to your site for more.

4. Provide free software.

Software is a great gift as it is often perceived as higher value than ebook or newsletter.

It could be freeware, shareware, demos etc. You could even turn part of your site into a free software directory.

The free software should be related to your area of niche and is able to assist your visitors in some ways. For example, if your website is about weight loss, you can include a weight loss calculator on your website and allow your visitor free use or free download of the software.

If you know how to create software, you can include your links or banners within the software and allow other people to give it away. It is another great way to create viral marketing for your website.

I completely agree with point 3 - Write and Submit Articles.
I think that good content - is the best way for promotion. People remember who you are and that your site was useful and interesting and they will return again for new articles.

Getting new customers for nothing
I have been working in my lawn business for seven years and have worked very hard building up my client base, spending up to a third of my time chasing new customers. A few years ago I set up my internet site justlovegardening.net and was hoping to get new clients that way. The problem with my internet site was, if I want more customers I needed more internet traffic. It’s like set and forget, because when I want more customers I just make more free internet traffic.
How I did it.
I was doing a Google search for “Star Cities International” and found this free SMS promotion I put on my website, I think it is called Richleads, but you find it by the search I did.
If you have the term free as a keyword and you have a free service on your website, search engines pick this up and your site will be featured in the search results on the main part of the Google page. Free is one of the most searched words on the internet, and having free SMS is very popular. Put these key words together with all the words that relate to my lawn business, you get more traffic and more people interested in lawns. The best part is people have to register through my website to get the free SMS service and I get their contact details to follow them up.

Now, simply do what is described in the above, click on the Home & Garden category, or what category best suits you, choose a promotion suitable for your own site, fill out your details and you will receive your promotions for approval and once approved you will receive an email with the code to put anywhere on your internet site.

So far I am happy with the early results, mainly because it hasn’t cost a cent.

1. Writting Quality Content - Content is King. Donot get PLR articles. Write quality contents that makes people to come back.
2. Build your brand with catchy logos and captions.Having a nice design that makes your quality content explored and navigated easily. Look into some nice web design steps.
3. Create RSS feeds for visitors to subscribe
4. Optimise your site for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation )
5. Use appropriate targetted keywords in your articles but donot stuff keywords. Dont stuff your page with keywords and ads.
6. Write articles and submit it in Article sites and directories.

I also think posting articles is quite useful, but exchanging links is snake oil.
Only a few referral links can bring some traffic.
