Building Relationships helps to Build a Business
If you are interested in starting a business of your own, one of the primary things one needs to learn is how to establish relationships with people.
I have heard many times people say that they don't want to sell or they don't want to talk to people, but how else are you going to get people to join your business or to purchase your service or product? A business involves selling of some kind. If you don't want to sell or talk to people, you won't often find someone who is willing to join your business or buy anything from you. If you do find someone, they will not stay around because who is going to teach them the business or talk to them about the products that they just purchased.
Robert Kiyosaki, who wrote Rich Dad, Poor Dad, says his primary reason for becoming a salesman with Xerox was so that he could learn to sell. He was a very shy person and he knew that connecting with people was one of the necessary skills in having a successful business. His rich dad taught him this. Thus he became a Xerox salesman and he was horrible at it for the first year or so. He had many doors slammed in his face and he was close to being fired. But, he did not give up and in time was one of the top salesman in the company.
Today communication is one of the top skills Robert posseses, it is one of the reasons why he is so successful. Often, he can be found getting up in front of people teaching them about investing or owning a business.
I know many of us find selling and/or talking to people to be the least liked out of all of the other responsibilities in owning a business, but avoiding something we don't like, can hurt you. There is a saying that "Successful People Do What Unsuccessful People Don't Do". My suggestion is to just do it. Read a book on selling, take a class on selling, learn to become a good communicator or better yet, learn to become a great communicator. You will be very happy with the result you discover not only within your business but also within yourself. The new you will astound everyone, even you.
