Essentially, you can have either. That sort of program can be done in any application that uses or mimics the
VB 'like' function.
Just enter part of what you're searching for in a field, and at worst you get a small table of records that you can choose from.
I set up a very similar search function online for a waste management site in Hawaii last year. All the person had to do was enter 3-4 characters of the name of their street, and it came back with a clickable list in table form.
The user chose their address from the list, and other info appeared below the form.
The same sort of thing can be done behind the scenes if that interface is uncomfortable for your father.
