Default Dos & Donts in marketing/telemarkting?

Today I spent 2 hours with another co-worker going to wholesale businesses in the norcross, georgia area asking if they need a website or e-commerce site. We also do POS and online mortage. Yet in the past month I have gotten few potiental ( thinking yes or no ) from them but no actual client. What are some nice tips to get a client for my business? Another co worker was suggesting that I try to go to market shows in the area to meet many employers. I been doing calls to each businesses from this atlanta market catalog and getting alot of " we have someone who does that for us" and "no thank you".Maybe I need to try harder or say something different?1. Their response would be they have someone or they have a site ( then I tell them that we do all our designs professionally and in flash , no template or cheap stuff).2.Example please?3.Well, I tell them that we can turn wholesale websites into websites with functions like admin and user control panel, mailing systems, e-catalogs and much more. Thanks for the tips guys especially young.I 'll be honest and I did say things like " we dont use cheap templates , we do high quality flash " and maybe some of those people I spoke with today were the ones who designed the site.2 hours but we ( me and my market partner ) drove up and down scouting for businesses that deals with wholesale.Bad idea? This is what Im going to do tomorrow :Get 30 businesses ( boss ordered 30 per day ) out of this atlantamart catalog. First write down 30, then check out their sites and see what they need that we can offer then start calling but can I actually finish 30 companies from 10am to 6pm? that is my work hour. This is what I say when I call companies"Hello, my name is kevin with . How are you?I visited your website today and I can suggest some ideas to improve your site. Our company does web designs based on flash animation. We also do e-commerce, we do web hosting and online web mortage. We can also add in functions so you can sell your products better such as inventory management and shipping management."Then I usually get replies like "no thanks", " we have someone"As of yet, I have not gotten any clients. Maybe its the area Im in or everyone has a web designer already? My company is www.4msol.com

ok,this is really long to write so im just going to give you some ideas...1)reboudle them... when they say im not interested or maybe ask them why arnt you interested?if you were to need a website what would it be that u wanted...(im not sure what you actually do so dont give up try to push them a little more)2)The person you are going up is not expecting to hear this from you so be understanding of there insecuritys.try to small talk with them before you ask the big question.build a report with the person3)Show that you know waht your talking about provide information that you know they will be interested in and present it in a way you would to a family member or a friend...good luck i hope this works

It sounds like you might be a bit new at this so just a few things to think about.......try to find out more about the people you are pitching your product to before you do. Research the industry and especially their company so you can talk to them about how you can help them with their specific product. Also, complement them when you first begin to talk to them. Congratulate them on their accomplishments on running a successful business (again you should know something about them). Then explain what you can provide.....if they tell you they have someone.....then praise them for having someone taking care of that for them.....then ask for their help. What I mean by this is....say "I am trying to find some businesses or people that I can help with my product, can you tell me what you like about your current provider?" Then ask what they might change. This can help in two ways: you will be better with the next person you call on and you might find what this person is unhappy with their current person. It keeps the whole conversation positive and low pressure. If they tell you something they would change, you can tell them about how you could make that better or you can keep that information and call them back in a week or two with a good idea that you came up with for them. This is just a few ideas to help the meeting go smoother and give you more information on what you can tweek before your next meeting. People love to be complimented and recognized for their work. You build great report this way and it just may get you in the door.

With all due respect 2 hours?!?! Did you even break a sweat?Drop bys are very inefficient. In one hour I can make more calls then you can traversing for 8 hours.First I am going to due some research in the area by looking up names of companys in a geographic region. Once I have that I'm going to Yahoo(not really I'll Google) that name and see what comes up. No website or one that needs work, that goes into the call pile. Once I have about 20 of these I am finally ready to make some calls.I should also mention I'd put these on index cards with small descriptions of what I thought their website needed. This can be for refresher when I place the call.Once I start calling I am going to shoot for a appointment. Yes really a face to face meeting that I will go into with a plan. Every time I speak to someone I am going to write it on my card of how and what was said.I would continue to do this until I had 10 appointments.Time to prepare. Go in with a PURPOSE. I know you want the work and the money so do they but what are you going to do to earn it? I'd do some small spec intro pages with just enough WOW to get their attention. From there I'll plan on talking about some of other features which can be added.Rule 1.. Lose the techno babble! The person you are talking to more than likely won't have a clue what you are talking about.Rule 2.. Don't degrade what they have or haven't doneThe person you are talking to may be the one that DID that website. Nobody likes to be insultedRule 3... Present SOLUTIONS not problemsHow can you take the company to the next level electronically and make their life easier?Rule 4... Do not mail ANYTHING!When someone uses 'send me something in the mail' that translates to 'I'm done talking to you please let me go now'. Tell them you'll 'get it out to them'. Send nothing. Call them in two weeks and ask them what they thought of what you sent. Wow they didn't get anything.. who would'da thought? Now its time to ask to see them so that it won't get lost again. Of course you do that a little more tactfully but you get the drift. Finally this is 2008.. any respectable size company has a website. You are prob going to have to live with crumbs for a while. But hard work and tenacity will eventually pay off.

Dos and Don'ts. What DM Can Do ... most effective if considered in conjunction
with other forms of advertising, such as telemarketing, web marketing, etc.
