Im going to seg Shenzhen any advice?

Hi I am going to China within the next month and want to know if anyone has any experience with the seg electronics market in Shenzhen. I am looking to buy a range of pc components and wondered if anyone knew what the prices in general were like. Ive read there is a wholesale section aswell, anyone got any info about this?

If you have not been before and you do not have someone with you who speaks the lingo I wouldn't recommend it. It can be very dodgy round those parts and you will stick out like a sore thumb! The prices are not that great these days as well.

You would be better off saving the airfare/hotel costs and doing deals direct in my opinion.

Cheers Flogg, will bear that in mind. I will definitly be going over within the next month and am confident I will find at least one good supplier/product to bring back, Im not totally fixed on pc components and will also be exploring Beijing and Hong Kong. Slightly nervous as have never been to China, but have been and done business In Thailand many times for over 3 years so am aware of the possible scammers out to take people for a ride.

Good luck! IF I was you I'd make as many contacts as possible before you go and then visit them. If you are serious they will pick you up from your hotel.

SEG is OK. Some of the stalls are operated by factory owners.

TIP: Take a calculator as all your bartering is done by typing in numbers and then displaying 'your' price.

Contacting suppliers as we speak! I am also hoping to go to an electronics trade show in April. Can anyone relate there experience of these?

Next month, from Feb.6 to Feb.12, 2008, China will have Spring Festival holidays. During that time, all Chinese factories, government, stores will be closed, which is similar like western X'mas holidays.

So, you'd better come to China avoid that time. Some factories even have 2 weeks or 3 weeks Spring Festival holidays.
