When creating a rewards and recognition system for your network partners, it's good to bear in mind the realities of how people are actually motivated.
In the not-too-distant past, the predominant theories about how to create effective rewards systems all mostly centered around the idea that if you want to guide the behavior of others, you have to be able to establish credible rewards and threats of punishment. The carrot and the stick. Underlying the carrot and stick theory is that, left to their own devices, most people would just as soon do "what they want to do," which was probably not "what I want to them to do."
