Callahan and PattyK are almost totally correct...almost.
Genuine designer bags are available to be purchased, with the exception of Louis Vuitton (who incidently incinerate all their overstocks...ouch!)
They are only available either direct from the supplier, and this is almost impossible to do.
Or they can be obtained through closeout or stocklot purchase.
For example, I recently purchased a 40' shipping container of stock from Sears & Bloomingdales in the US, this lot had designer bags in it.
Some of the brands were coach, Gucci, Cavalli and Balenciaga.
These items are authentic, and come with a manifested bill of layding as well as proof of purchase from Sears & also Bloomingdales.
That said however, there is no such thing as a cheap / discount wholesale bag.
For instance, a Gucci bag that retails for $1000, will wholesale for around $700 to $800 depending on style.
There are no $100 Gucci bags!!
Also it is important to note that i do not have a say in what products I get. I can't say "oh I like that bag, can i order some of them"... it doesn't work that way either.
I purchase a container load, normally contains anywhere from 12000 to 40000 pieces in it, and whats in there is it, no picking, no choosing, take what you get.
The upside to buying this way tho is, because you are buying end of season, closeout lines, you do normally pay less than wholesale, as it is sold on clearance terms with no returns / refunds etc.
So, be careful of anyone offering you bags, that they can get any design, any brand (especially Louis Vuitton!!) any time at all.
Be careful if you are offered a $1000 bag for $300, it doesn't happen...not ever!
And always ask, can you authenticate this product? does it have a paper trail?
Buy with your eyes wide open!!
And where possible, buy from a seller in your country, so they are bound by the same laws that you are!
For instance, I'm in Australia, where it is illegal to sell counterfeit and fake items, as a registered business it would cost me everything if I was found to be in possession of fake items...not worth it.
hope this is of some use to you.
Cheers,
Jamie
