As many people have said there are many ways to get traffic, however before you start spending ,money of time getting traffic make sure you have some sort of tracking code so you can track and measure where the traffic is coming from and what works better that other methods. I recommend using Google Analytics (it's free).
Now I would do as others have suggested on here like: blog commenting, forums, articles, social bookmarking, social media. This rocks! the key is being consistent an hour a day. Or outsource it
The most important factor you have to know to make all this work effectively is your keywords. make sure you do your keyword research and you know exactly what ones you are targeting. Keywords are the end of the spear.
I would also start doing video and submitting the video through tubemogul.com (it's free) you then what to social bookmark your videos, then go to pingler.com and ping your videos and your social bookmarking links.
You should also being using funneling or supporting pages like hubpages, blogger, squdioo, srcibd, etc
Or do a JV, somewhere, someone has your clients/customers.

Helpful. The process involves setting aside a set time period, like say for two hours per week, and just dedicate this time to having your blogs, updating links on forums and keeping your content fresh and relevant.
It's like going to exercise - if you just do it flat out for a week and then nothing for months, it doesn't really gather any momentum.

In 1998, promoting your business web site was a very easy process. You placed 3 lines of code called "meta tags" on the top of your home page and submitted the page to free search engines or directories. Fast forward to the present.
Web site promotion has become a time consuming project and a new position in the web design industry, Search Engine Consultants, has been created. Use the list below to find ways that your business web site will be found by your ideal client, is user friendly and is visited often.

Hello,
Today, the biggest problem that new website owners have is: "How they can get traffic to their website?" Significant amount of time and energy is spent today on this single task. You or your webmaster needs to commonly focus on:
- Get ranked well on the most important search engines (Google, Yahoo, Msn, Ask.com, etc.)
- Pay Per Click (PPC) programs
- Cost Per Click (CPC) programs
- Link Exchanges
- Directory Submissions

Forum posting, blog commenting, article submission, directory submission, and social bookmarking are some techniques to help drive traffic, but it will be minimal.
If you are participating in the above techniques for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) to generate natural traffic by increasing your rankings, then this is a good start, as long as you know how to do it correctly.
Making sure your links are followed, using the correct anchor text, linking to home page and 1 internal page, 1 article to 1 directory, press release with the same rules.
These are just some tips to get you on your way.
I hope this helps.
