Internet marketing, also referred to as i-marketing, web marketing, online marketing, or emarketing , is the marketing of products or services over the Internet.

The Internet has brought many unique benefits to marketing, one of which being lower costs and greater capabilities for the distribution of information and media to a global audience. The interactive nature of Internet marketing, both in terms of providing instant response and eliciting responses, is a unique quality of the medium. Internet marketing is sometimes considered to have a broader scope because it not only refers to digital media such as the Internet, e-mail, and wireless media; however, Internet marketing also includes management of digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management systems.

and more companies now a days market their products and services through the net because of lower cost and higher market reach.

These days it seems that without on online presence, one's business is at a serious disadvantage. I think it is important however, not to get too caught up with internet marketing and neglect the basics of traditional marketing.
Talking to someone face to face is always going to be better than talking over the net.
As long as it is not junk, sending a great sales letter in the mail is probably going to make more of an impression than just another e-mail.

The internet certainly enables people to reach a greater number of people at lower cost; however doing this effectively is not an easy task.
Like with more traditional forms of marketing, junk/spam is of course the unfortunate by-product.

I agree leaves123, you still need that face to face with alot of clients they like to know they are dealing with a real person and not just some bot at the other end.

Indeed, the anonymity of the internet can be quite counter-productive.
One must build a marketing strategy with this shortcoming in mind.
Once a prospect is interested, building personal trust is very important.
People like a good business relationship, not getting the feeling that they are just another number on a spreadsheet.

I think many marketers are taking this giving thing as an exercise or task and not realizing the true nature and the meaning. I think true nature of it is just to be honest and interact with people in proper manner.
