To be safe, think like an average person with average understanding of the internet world with average skills surfing online. By casting your net as wide as possible, you will have more chances in drawing in the right visitors to your website.

You can also try directory submission, social bookmarking,social media, rss submission,and blog commenting to get quality backlinks

Hello!
I'm only starting in this area but have some ideas
I've already read a lot of useful advices and information.
But i think that not all of these common advices and ways of SEO will be effective for every site.
It depends on the site specifics, particular audience.

And it will be more effective for readers if everyone could share his own experience, his own tips in dependence of business specific.
I mean that i would like to read not common advices, but precise.
E.g. I have a used car online shop. I did ...... and I had a succes.

I have a software development company. So I'll write only about things that help me to promote my business. But i'm only new in this area and there are no achievements yet. Now i'm in the process of distribution of press releases and working on articles and site-contents. And press-releases distribution is not effective way from my point of view.

So i think that everyone would like to hear about really working ways of promotion.

When doing SEO and infact anything on the internet it is going to be your keywords that will really make the difference, your keywords are the end of the spear, so to speak. As this is what your target audience is typing in, that they are thinking about, etc

You must do your keyword research and spend the necessary time to unlock those long tail keywords.

Building links from sites with high PR and having lots of great content will take you a long way. However what many people forget is that yes you need traffic and lots of it and SEO is a great way to get it. However you also need to convert the traffic, capture the leads and have a sales process that will generate you money.
