Default Should I use my home page or a more relevant page for link exchange?

I am wondering if I should use my home page for back linking purposes or a different, more relevant one. Which approach is better for SEO purposes?Should I give my home page's URL or a different, more relevant one, to other people to link to my site?

Perhaps you can add a page on your website called Links or a name which is appropriate and then try link exchange. Too much links on the home page would look shabby and misleading to the visitors of your website.A detailed guide can be found on the link below :

Keep links Relative. For Example get people who own a fashion website to link to your Fashion Page!

I wonder if people are guessing? It's well known in SEO that you should mix your links between home page and "deep" links to relevant content on your page. High quality deep links are favored by search engines. Sending all links to your home page is far less effective, but more important still is the anchor text and the landing pages title/H1 tags. These need to match or be well paired. In other words the relevance needs to be strong between the deep link and the content itself.

I have a mixture on the site i run. I have a dedicated links page, and some links also appear on my homepage.

I would agree on the use of deep links and heading tags for your internal contents and not only to send your homepage. Search engines can find more of your relevant keywords through those deep links which are easily crawled. Also, sending links to directories might be a good start but remember to avoid overstuffing of keywords, use of too much keywords in the title and matching them with irrelevant categories. Relevance is a must so before trying to send your deep links off, take note of the websites' niches so you'll not waste any effort.
