I need to ship a few heavy boxes half way across the country. What is the best and cheapest way to do so? I don't care about time (under two weeks). UPS, US Postal, etc.?

The cheapest would be express mail via USPS. If you are shipping valuables, the best would be a trucking company from your local yellow pages, sometimes you can get a good deal from a moving company as well if they have a load already heading that way, the major van lines charge by the pound not the hour.
