All businesses have running costs and the cost of listing on ebay or using paypal to collect money are no different to having rent on a premises and incurring bank charges in the 'real' world, so to speak.I think there are reduced charges for ebay businesses, but I think these are based on volume...Just make sure you sell your items for enough to cover your costs, and good luck.

Hey confusedWell to answer your question you don't get a subsidised rate as such. Instead you pay fees for listing your items individually. If you have a multiple items listing then you will be charged a fee for each item. Your £10 buy it now listing for example. Say it was a dvd for £10 then it would cost you 10p to list the item as buy it now (adding a picture would increase this to 25p) then you would also have to pay a final value fee of 9% of the sale value. Buy it now though is an option that is only available if you have a feedback score of 20 or have a direct debit on file or paypal account in which case you can have a score of ten and accept paypal as your payment form. Listings have to have a minimum price of 0.99p. As for paypal you don't have to pay any setup fees though you will have to take out a premier account to receive money which is free. You do pay fees on the actual payments though which are 1.4-3.4% + 20p. If you wish to open a shop with ebay then you will have to pay a subscription (£6 a month-basic, £30 a month - featured, £300 a month - anchor). This will give you insertion fees of 3p and final value fees of 10% of the initial £4.99 plus 8% of anything over that. Obviously this option is only for the point when you are used to selling and are making a good return. If you choose this option though you will come under new legislation governing business online. I really hope this helps.David Barclay
