Default what payment method should i use?

I'm about to buy something totaling somewhere above $10,000. the seller is in the US.The person doesn't want to use paypal (paypal charge a huge amount of percentage on that amount). But he do accept Visa, check, mastercard, and any major payment (NO moneygram, or western union). What is the safest way to do the transaction? I heard the term COD but some people says it's just similar to check.

Cashier's check is your best bet.

Can't beat a credit card if you have one. COD means Cash on Delivery; if seller won't take WU, probably won't accept COD. Nobody does that anymore.

A credit card payment is generally safe because if you do not get satisfaction, you can ask the credit card company to withhold payment until your claim can be investigated. For example, if you don't receive the goods, or if you receive something other than what you ordered, or the goods are substandard and don't meet specifications, etc. you can dispute the payment. With a check, once it is deposited the money is out of your control.
