Default What's the best accounting freeware for a small online merchant?

I've just started a small online store selling a book I've self-published. I started out keeping track of sales in a spiral notebook, then graduated to an excel spreadsheet. But as sales keep coming in, it's starting to get more complicated. I need to distinguish books sold, from books placed in stores but not sold, from books given away as gifts, from books still in my inventory. And all the payment methods (in person, via a retailer, online... cash, check, credit card) and all the tax variables and all the various fees, shipping, etc. Ahhh, my head spins, and my excel spreadsheet grows waaay too complicated. Any suggestions? I've not much budget for anything fancy but don't want to spend hours entering in numbers either.

Try this website for some options. After I opened my business, I found this website and after reviewing a couple options, I selected Microsoft's package, but there are others that may be better suited for your business.http://www.dwmbeancounter.com/

Hi,I've got 2 answers for you...The first is for you to have a look for AceMoneyLite - it's 100% freeware and works a treat - I use it all the time and can highly recommend it. It stores accounts in databases and, although the free version is "supposedly" limited to one account, you can rename an account and then create a new one and choose whichever database (account) you want each time you open the program. It's also pretty lightweight.Given that you're selling a book (not sure if digital or physical), you may want to have a look at the following "free to join" service to process your digital sales - the fees are incredibly low and your payments are guaranteed - links to both the accounting freeware and the payment processing webs can be found below my answer in the source box.Hope this helps
