Default Copyright/Intellectual property law question regarding DVD region coding in Australia. Can you help PLEASE???

Hello,I'm an australian with a DVD player, and I'm trying to get hold of a film I used to have on VHS, but I can't find it at Australian retailers, even online. So I considered importing it from the US or UK, but then I remenbered that discs are region coded, preventing play outside that region. I looked up DVD region code in Wikipedia, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code) and found that all australian DVD players sold since the case cited below are required to be region 0, meaning they can play DVDs from any region. I've purchased 2 DVD players since then (2005), and both have a region 4 symbol printed on the outer casing. Please advise as to if these products are either incorrectly labelled (ignore the symbol, because it'll work with all regions), or if the manufacturer is in contravention of Aust federal laws??ref:Stevens v Kabushiki Kaisha Sony Computer Entertainment [2005 HCA 58; (2005) 221 ALR 448; (2005) 79 ALJR 1850 (6 October 2005)], High Court of Australia.BTW, both of the DVD players purchased were manufactured by LG Electronics, and both are 2006 models or later, which means in both cases the players were built after October 2005.The film I'm trying to get hold of is called "Cannonball Fever". If you know a way of getting this film from anywhere, that is brand new (sealed by the manufacturer), AND coded as region 4, this would solve my problem completely. Thanks everyone for your help!Hello mulletmeister63,I did as you instructed, and the LG home theatre system with built in DVD player is so new that hacks have not been discovered for it yet, so I looked up my old one and presto: a few short simple instructions and I've got it reset to zone 0. So I start playing around with the new one, and accidentally stumbled on the hack code for the newer model! Not surprising the sequence is very similar to the older unit, especially since they're the same manufacturer. So thank you sir for your help on this. If it's not too much trouble, may I ask just for curiosity sake, have you any idea how the manufacturers are getting away with this? I shouldn't have to hack my own equipment to make it work when federal laws clearly dictate that region coding of DVD players is illegal in Australia. WTF is going on here??

hi from Sydneythis whole code bull s*** is in blatant violation/ infringement of the so called "free trade agreement"!what i did (& what you should do) is internet search(google /yahoo etc) :dvd/hackthis will give you "codes" to change your dvd player to multi(any) region.the codes are usually about 15 "instructions" using your remote such as-enter 2, enter 7 , open tray, close tray etc.this is done with your tv on & connected, but no dvd inside the player. you need to know the manufacturor & model of your dvd player(have you kept your manual ?)after successfull "hacking" of your dvd player a message will appear on your screen such as "dvd /multi region".when was the "free trade agreemnt" signed? 2005?maybe your manufacturor just "snuck in"dvd region coding is a CON!it is /was designed to "prevent piracy"( i don't know how that would work!)remember the dvd player manufactureors want you to buy another dvd player, & the dvd (disc) manufactureors prefer this anti competative system also.
