Default The Great Fuel Rip off?

If there was really a fuel shortage, to such an extent that commercial vehicles could not do deliveries for about a week. The result would be the collapse of the economy, the collapse of the government and very near social chaos. The government have taken no measures to safeguard fuel supplies because they are all too well aware that there is no shortage (yes the forecourts may run out due to panic buying). The government could have just kept quiet and said nothing about the strike, however, being in the business of collecting revenue, it instead decides to issue warnings against panic buying. They know full well that upon release of their statement, the public would panic buy and low and behold, the chancellor rakes in a few more billion in revenues. This country is not totally dependant on Grangemouth Oil refinery. Imports of oil are phenomenall, even before the strike. Are you guilty of Panic buying to fill the governments coffers?Dr NumbskullLol!Guess how much it costs to fill the old truck up?Answer - £538

If they don't know they should well have known. Just look what happened to the egg industry when Edwina Currie said about twenty words about them. Best way to start a panic is to say don't panic. Why in Dads army the man goes don't panic, don't panic because they know people know that means Panic.

This is not a question - you are just looking for a soap box on which to expound your views -and that is not the purpose of this site.

Tescos try to get you to buy more food because they know that once you've got it in the house, you'll eat more - but that doesn't work with fuel. OK so you use slightly more fuel with a full tank than with an empty tank, but panic buying simply means you'll buy less next week. If you want to help the government, get the blackmailers banned from your pub. They're paid enough, what about our turn?

Stephen... consider a career in journalism. Your article/question are good.I was driving home from work an hour ago and was just thinking precisely that. I have a strong feeling that the government is on a relentless attack on the rest of us. They must have what they call 'think-tanks' trying to find new ways to suck more money from the population. - Stealth taxes left right and centre, then 10p in the Pound tax gone, and now this.I feel that the reason for this 'shortage' of petrol is that they are probably trying to get the price at the pumps double the £1.20 of now by Christmas to about £2.00 a littre so that, by letting us know what it's like to be without petrol, we will more readily accept the £2.00 a litre.I don't believe there is a shortage of petrol.Gordon Brown in 'Titanic'"The ship is INDEED sinking.... only DON'T PANIC, folks !" ---LOLGordon thinking to himself ("...that should get them to panic, alright !")

The Government have no real interest in this. The higher the fuel at the pumps the higher the revenue they raise. The MPs and Ministers will not go short. Fuel is held in private pumps. They say 'Don't Panic' to say they are trying to help, don't they realise it has the opposite effect. Panic buying is no good, eventually your tank will empty. You don;t add to the government coffers, they just get the tax this week instead of next time you fill up. Roll on a new fresh Government. Get rid of this useless bunch of t*ssers.
