Default how can i tell if my Aus Wii can play Japan Games?

I bought a Nintendo Wii (bought in Australia), can it play Japan Wii Games? imported from japan?or how can i check?since i would think that Australian Wii's would be able to play the Japanese game since it was made in Asia.Thanks.

No, it can’t. Australian Wiis use PAL region formatting, Japan is different, its format is NTSC-J, although it is not compatible with American NTSC either. Your Australian Wii can only play Australian games. You will have to wait a while for Smash Bros., sorry!Note that Europe also uses PAL, but many things from Europe are not compatible in Australia. I am not sure whether European and Australian Wiis are compatible, but I don’t think so.
