Cuba PolicyRaul Castro is much more open to the modern world today then his older brother Fidel Castro has ever been, but will Bush still go against his promises that he had made to Cuba saying that “They would receive aid from a new Freedom Fund” (More Cuba Fulminations) and not change Cuba policy’s or will Bush do the right thing and give aid to Cuba’s people that are suffering every day? Now that Raul Castro has taken over Cuba there are many reasons that Bush should change policies. One main reason is that Raul is going to be a much better leader for Cuba’s people then Fidel has ever been. For example “Raul Castro, Cuba’s likely new leader after his ailing brother Fidel Castro bowed out on Tuesday, is a pragmatist more concerned with putting food on Cuban tables than spreading revolution abroad.”(Raul Castro raises hopes of economic change in Cuba) This shows that Raul Castro is going to be making many changes in Cuba’s economy. Instead of try to start wars or blaming other countries for Cuba’s problems like his brother Fidel did in the past. Raul sounds like he is going to concentrate on what he can do to help his people. One of Raul’s first actions will be to allow his people to freely buy and sell their homes. He is also has called for “structural changes” that will increase food go out of Cuba and decrease importing from other country’s so they will be able to really more on themselves, this will be more jobs in the food business in Cuba.Raul is trying to minimize the weapons and the soldier population in Cuba. For example “’Beans are more important than cannons’ Raul said during the crisis that left the air force parking its MiG jet fighters with the help of horses for lack of fuel.” (Raul Castro raises hopes of economic change in Cuba) The quote shows that Raul is not looking to have any kind of war or conflicts with other countries in the future. He is trying to lower the money going towed’s weapons and give back to his people by loosening the state control over Cuba’s and to maintain one-party communist rule. Raul has also been cutting back on the population of soldiers in Cuba. For example “He cut the armed forces to one fifth of its peak of 300,000 troops, and backed reforms that allowed limited private initiative to flourish in the 1990s.” This quote also shows that Raul is not looking to have any kind of war or conflict with other countries in the future. Instead he is concentrating on introducing capitalist business practice and having a big role in needed advancements to Cuba’s economy. I think now that Raul Castro has taken power, Cuba is try there best to change for the better and it’s time for Bush to keep his promises and contribute to the citizens of Cuba by giving them aid in there suffering. Are Raul political views that different then his brothers, even though his reputation from his earlier years of supporting Fidel’s political views as his enforcer, or will he follow in his brothers foot stepps witch he has supported his whole life? Many people think that Raul will not try any kind of political reform. For example “Few expect him to pursue any meaningful political reforms now or even when Fidel eventually dies. Instead, he is widely expect to push China-style economic liberalization.” This shows that raul isent any time soon looking towed democratic transition and changing to a more free and fair election witch he must do to gain Bushes trust to think about changing Cubas embargo. Even though Raul is in power now Castro will still pull the strings until he dies. For example “But, as if cowed by the shadow of big brother, Raul insisted that only Fidel could be considered Cuba’s true commander-in-chief.’ We all know it,’ he admitted while adding that all major official decisions will continue to be vetted by Fidel.” This is shows that U.S is not going to consider changing Cuba’s embargo just because Fidel say’s that Raul is in power now. We will probbly have to wait until Fidel dies until we can consider any kinds of changes. Many people also thought once Raul took power he would bring new and younger faces into power that would have new ideis of change but did not. For example “Many Cuba watchers had expected younger faces to emerge- widely anticipating, for example, that Raul’s reform-minded economy czar, Carlos Lage, who in relative Cuban terms is a positively teen-aged 56, would become First vice President. Lage instead remained s a subordinate vice president.” Instead he kept “hard-liners” like 70 year old National Assembly leader Ricardo Alarcon in power. Although Castro said that Raul is in power now, it became clear at the inaugal speech that Fidel is still head of the party and mite even still exceed Raul’s position as head of state. Is there more positive reasons that shows its time to change Cubas polices or more negative reasons that show its not time yet to change Cubas polices? There are two different points of views on this topic. One point of view is that now Raul Castro is in power and not takeing orders from his older brother any more he is able to make many changes. Another point of view is that Even though Fidel said Raul is in power now, makes no difference because he still holds post as head of the party and will always be Cuba’s true commander-in-chief.Many people think now that Fidel is no longer in power is a perfect time show that America is open to a different relationship with Cuba by changing Cubas embargo. If we do not, the U.S risks alienating another generation of Cuban people and forcing there government farther into the arms of countries like Venezuela and China and they will not need help from U.S and will hate ous for letting them suffer, under the Castro brother regeam. On the other hand if we do change cubas embargo things my get much wors. The Castro brother will brain wash there people into thinking that they had made U.S change the embargo because Cuba is to great of a nation. Then it could make the Fidel brothers power hungry and start another Cold War.

Wow, that took a while to type. If Raul is open to change, we should change our policy.

Never write Bush, it should be President Bush. You should also use Raul Castro's title. In the last sentence change Fidel brothers to Castro brothers. In the last paragraph you state Fidel is no longer. It should be Mr. Castro is no longer. Is there more positive reasons that shows its time to change Cubas polices ( Cuba's policies - apostrophy missing and policies is mispelled)
