Default Affirmative Action question?

I work for a city in Michigan and there is no longer affirmaive action here in the state. There was, but it was voted against during the last election. Anyways, the city I work for has an Affirmative Action Director. I'm not exactly sure what she does. I know she works with some businesses, requiring them to have an Affirmative Action Plan. Is this legal still? Couldn't the city get in trouble. Regardless of your feelings on affirmative action, its still not the law.

If it is not required by law than the city/state has no authority over a private business. The AA director may work to encourage companies to hire minorities but they can't legally make them.

Default Affirmative Action question?

In addition to what the first poster said, the city may have some authority over things that the state doesn't. Just like many things are left up to the states instead of the Federal government, some things are left up to the local government. Just because people voted against a statewide initiative, it may not prohibit the city from doing something.

There could be ordinances that require you to do certain things if you want to do business with the city
