As foreigners if we give birth in the US (Swedish and Australian parents), I understand that the child is automatically a US citizen. Does this mean that the child will have to file tax returns with the IRS for the rest of the life even if he or she doesn't live in the US (due to global taxation for US citizen), unless US citizenship is denounced? Thanks,Henrik
If your child is born in the US and doesn't denounce their citizenship they will be issued a Social Security Number and as soon as they start working they will need to pay income taxes.
In theory yes - if they return to the US in the future and have not done so, they could be arrested/fined. However, in practical terms, if you have the child here then go back to your own country to live, who's to know?
