Default I'm looking to buy a stove in the US (NY) and bring it back to Canada (ON). What's the tax & duty cost?

I'm looking to buy a new kitchen stove (North American made) down in New York and bring it back to Ontario. As I understand, because it's NA made, I won't have to pay duty on it. Would I have to pay New York tax on it? If so, what's the rate? Will I also have to pay GST & PST on it when I bring it across the border? Any insight that could be provided is appreciated. Tips are welcome!

HI there,You will have to pay sales tax in NY state and when you bring it into Ontario you will be charged GST and PST if you are only down in NY state for less than 24 hours. If you are there for a week or more and the stove is less than $750 CAD then it is exempt from taxes. There is no duty on goods crossing the border from the USA into Ontario - except for liqour and tobacco I believeHowever with the Canadian $ almost at PAR to the USD it is probably still a deal for you! Also in Ontario right now they are offering PST rebates etc for energy efficient appliances. so make sure you do your research.
