Default Legal to tow cars from private lot after the close of business?

I parked in a lot one half hour after the close of business. It did have the appropriate posted signs stating customer parking only, the number of a towing company, the number of the police, etc. When I parked there, there were five other cars. When I came back 3.5 hours later, my car was gone and the lot was full. It was obvious the rest of the cars there were not customers either but people who had parked there the same as me to go have a good time downtown. The towing company claims the owner of the store next to the parking lot called them and asked them to tow two cars, mine and one other car. This seems like discrimination, seeing as the owner singled out two cars (we were parked in regularly marked spaces) but left the rest of the cars.Is there anything I can do about this, seeing as the owner selectively chose which cars to tow based on the make/model of the car? I feel the owner harassed us.

Yes, it is perfectly legal and there are good reasons for it. First of all, it keeps people away from the building when it is closed, thus preventing thefts. Second, it keeps someone from attempting to hold the business liable when they leave their car there unattended and it gets damaged. There is nothing you can do about it. I'm sure there's more to this story.

It is NOT discrimination and how do YOU know about the reasons the other cars were parked there for? Maybe the owner knows why?! Since the owner did not know why your car and the other was parked there, that is why is was towed.Anyways, as you indicated, it is a PRIVATE lot and there WERE signs posted. YOU took the chance of parking there. The owner has every RIGHT to do what s/he did.

You were parked illegally and signs were posted. The owner does not have to explain why not all the cars were not towed. You chose to disobey the signs and got caught.
