with good credit, the cardholders limit goes up about every 6 months, unless the cardholder goes to the bank and signs paperwork to have them hold it. If you spent 7g's without noticing on your limit then you have a bit of a problem lol. In college I had a credit card with a $500 limit and three years later my limit was $14000.

You have to take responsibility at some point. You should have known that your card was over limit. It's not the credit card company's job to babysit you and make sure you know these things. I'm not trying to be harsh, but personal responsibility has gone out the window lately. Everyone wants everyone else to take care of them or to take the blame for things.

I see... this sucks! You were counting on some sort of email alert informing you are close to your limit. The limit was increased, you never got the alert and now spent too much... Classic credit card trap. Most likely in the very fine print there will be a paragraph written in a way no one can understand, that after translated by a financial attorney, will state that you gave permission for them to increase your limit without prior authorization... Sad but legal :-(

If you had a $3,000 dollar limit and they raised it to $7,000 there is nothing wrong with that, it usually means that they feel your credit is worthy enough. If you are saying that your limit is $3,000 but there is now a balance of $7,000 that is something else. If this is a business expense you should have known that it was close or over(or the person who handles the charges should have known). There is no law and it is not the responsibility of the CC company to notify you. Although several give you the option to have them do this for you if you request it.If this is a charge you don't recognize then you need to dispute it with the Credit Card company.

Yes, it's legal. Credit cards will let you charge more than your limit so that they can slap you with the over-limit fees. Get your employees in line! Oh, and you might want to pay that off ASAP- it's going to zap you with fees and not look too pretty on your credit report.
